The Festival of Vézère arose, in 1981, on the initiative of Guy and Isabelle de Lasteyrie du Saillant and from the will of fourteen mayors of local authorities, gathered within the Association of communes of Arrangement of Vézère ( S.I.A.V). From the first year, five concerts were scheduled in five different places there of which the Castle of the Striking. For the 2nd Festival of Vézère the artists as the violinist Patrice Fontanarosa or the cellist Roland Pidoux are invited. In 1984, Barbara Hendricks comes for the first time. Every edition will so be marked by the presence of international artists who will make the quality and the fame of the festival to the son of the years.
Since its radiation widened. At present, eighteen concerts with a total number of spectators of more than 8.000 persons on eleven places different from the heritage. This action of cultural activities in rural areas allows to attract a very diversified public which grows in importance every year. The public is especially regional because 64 % of the spectators live in Limousin. It is thus a festival profoundly implanted in its region.
2010
From July 7th to August 25th, the entire Vézère Valley is alive with music for this marvellous festival. From the château du Saillant to the quaint churches of the region's cities and villages, the banks of the Corrèze and the Vézère will resonate with the profound harmonies of classical music intermixed with the singing of water and the calm of the woods. Nestled in the green fields and woods of the Vézère Valley, the imposing château du Saillant throws will open its gates to host some of the region's best concerts.
For its 30th summer, the Festival de la Vézère will propose eighteen original and varied concerts with international famous artists such as Carl Ghazarossian, Nemanja Radulovic, Patrick Ayrton, Kit Armstrong … but also Philippe Jaroussky, Anne Queffelec and the Auvergne Orchestra. |
